Cymbidium parents we use with names from T - Z

This page presents a summary of our cymbidium and other outdoor growing breeding plants with names starting from T through Z. These are used for breeding and display only and are generally not for sale. Photographs of many of the plants are included with three image sizes, a thumbnail about 80 x 60 pixels in size which is automatically displayed with the plant description (if image display is enabled),and links to a midsized image about 320 x 240 pixels in size and a 640 x 480 full sized image. Click on the thumbnail to see the full sized image or click on the plant name to see the midsized image if a midsized image is linked. All images are jpeg compressed and the image size in kbytes is included for each image so you can estimate the time required to download an image.

We try to include the important characteristics of each plant and what we expect it to produce as a parent. Plant size is indicated by Lar, Med, or Sm for large, medium or small, type of plant is indicated by Std, Nov or Min for standard, novelty or miniature cymbidium, bloom season is the primary month of bloom in coastal southern California and ploidy is shown as 2N, 3N, 4N or 6N, or with ? if uncertain. Novelty plants have a miniature parent in the background, and the miniature parent and generation is indicated by P, E, D, C, S, M, O for pumilum (floribundum), ensifolium, devonianum, canaliculatum, sinense (hoosai), madidum or other. The number after the letter indicates first, second, etc. generation for the miniature species in the background.

Cym. Tapestry 'Zita' 2N is a 4.5 inch dark rusty red diploid. We have used it for some breeding and the first flowers have been well formed with color in the red to brown shades. Std, Med, Mar, 2N

Cym. Tethys 'Black Magic' is a famous old wine red breeder that has a good deal of darker spotting under the main color. This has been one of the few plants to almost always have some spotted plants in its offspring. We still occasionally use this for breeding spotted flowers. Std, Med, Mar, 2N 23k, 73k

Cym. Thanksgiving 'Happiness' is a 5.5 inch bright yellow rectangular flower with up to 12 on a 3 foot spike. This has been used to create some very good yellow offspring. Std, Lar, Feb, 4N

Cym. Touchstone 'Janis' is a delightful medium brown miniature with 2 inch flowers on a pendant spike. We have used this for some brown novelty breeding. Min, Sm, Mar, 2N, D1 21k, 64k

Cym. Trigo Royale 'Canary' is a light yellow 4 inch early blooming flower, with up to 16 flowers on a 3 foot spike and two spikes on a bulb. We use this occasionally for breeding early yellows. Std, Med, Dec, 4N 21k, 62k

Cym. Trigo Royale 'Ridgeway' HCC/AOS is a stain resistant early white breeder with up to 14 flowers 4 inches across on 3 foot stems. This is an important breeder for early white cut flowers, and we use it occasionally for early white pot plants. Std, Med, Dec, 4N

Cym. Tweedle Dee '18 Caret' is a bright yellow 4.25 inch round flower with up to 15 flowers on a 3.5 foot upright stem. We are using this for yellow pot plant breeding. Std, Med, Apr, 4N 16k, 48k

Cym. Valley Flower 'Cherry Ripe' is a good round clear pink 4.5 inch flower. We have used it for several nice pink hybrids. Std, Med, Mar, 4N
Cym. Valley of Death 'Geyserland' is a very free blooming 4.5 inch red flower with up to 20 flowers on a 5 foot spike. We have been able to get this to breed a few times, but haven't seen any of the hybrids flower yet. We hope to get free blooming reds on long spikes with this as a parent. Std, Lar, Feb, 3N

Cym. Valley of Death 'Gotcha' B/CSA is a clear wine red 4.5 inch flower with up to 20 on a 4 foot spike. We have seen some very bright colors come from this parent, and it usually gives a reasonable amount of seed. Std, Lar, Feb, 3N 23k, 70k

Cym. Valley of Death 'Inferno' HCC/AOS B/CSA is a nice medium orange 4.5 inch flower with up to 16 on a 3.5 foot spike. We have seen some nice oranges come from this parent. Std, Lar, Feb, 3N 19k, 64k

Cym. Via del Playa 'Pinkie' B/CSA is a nice clear pink round 4 inch flower with up to 14 flowers on a 3 foot spike and often has 2 spikes on a bulb. We haven't used this much due to the small flower size, but the hybrids with this as a parent have been nice clear round pinks. It is a clear wine red 4.5 inch flower with up to 20 on a 4 foot spike. We have seen some very bright colors come from this parent, and it usually gives a reasonable amount of seed. Std, Med, Feb, 4N 23k, 82k

Cym. Via Mar Tranquila 'Mt. Cook' B/CSA is a good free blooming, stain resistant clear white 4.5 inch round flower with up to 20 on a 4 foot spike. We are using this with other stain resistant varieties to try to produce stain resistant whites for outdoor growers. It is a clear wine red 4.5 inch flower with up to 20 on a 4 foot spike. We have seen some very bright colors come from this parent, and it usually gives a reasonable amount of seed. Std, Lar, Feb, 4N 20k, 54k

Cym. Victoria Arvanitis 'Farmingdale' is a tall spiked blush white 4 inch flower with 12 flowers at the top of a 4 foot spike. Std, Med, Feb, 4N

Cym. Vieux Rose 'Dell Park' FCC/RHS HCC/AOS is a famous old parent which is still valuable for breeding. It has up to 25 veined pink 4 inch flowers with big, bold spotted lips on a 5 foot spike. Std, Lar, Apr, 4N 22k, 67k

Cym. Warona 'Copper' is a compact very bright red round 4 inch flower with 12 flowers on a 3 foot spike. This has given us some good bright colored crosses for pot plants. Std, Sm, Mar, 2N 20k, 60k

Cym. Winter Fair 'Erika' has up to 12 clean white round 4 inch flowers with no sunstaining on an upright 4 foot spike. We are using this for color and to improve the spike for white pot plant crosses. Std, Med, Mar, 4N 19, 56kk

Cym. Woody Wilson 'Ann' HCC/AOS S/CSA is a very round, full 5.5 inch ivory white flower with up to 13 flowers on a 3 foot spike. We are using this with hope of producing large award quality whites. Std, Med, Mar, 4N 57k

Cym. Woody Wilson 'Perfection' HCC/AOS B/CSA is a very round, full 5.5 inch ivory white flower with up to 10 flowers on a 3 foot spike. We have used this with hope of producing large award quality whites. Std, Med, Apr, 4N 20k, 71k

Cym. Woody Wilson 'The King' is a very round, full 5.5 inch ivory white flower with up to 12 flowers on a 3 foot spike. We are using this with hope of producing large award quality whites. Std, Med, Mar, 4N 21k, 76k

Cym. Wyalong 'Sunset' has very nice 4 inch orange flowers with up to 14 on a 3 foot spike. This has bred several nice orange to yellow and red prolific crosses. Std, Med, Mar, 4N

Cym. Wyandotte 'Orange Queen' is a 4 inch orange flower with darker orange veining and up to 16 flowers on an upright 3 foot spike. We have used this with several other oranges , but haven't seen the results yet. Std, Med, Apr, 4N 55k

Cym. Wyanga 'Elanora' is a 3.5 inch dark green pure color with a bright orange lip and up to 14 flowers on a 2.5 foot stem. This has produced some stunning green pure color novelties with bright orange lips, and we are using it to further these breeding lines. Std, Med, Mar, 2N

Cym. York 'Glendessary' is a clear light yellow 4 inch flower with up to 20 on a 4 foot upright spike and is one of the latest blooming yellow cymbidiums we have. We are using this to produce clear yellow pot plants. Std, Lar, May, 4N 59k

Cym. Yowie Flame 'Geyserland' HCC/AOS is an intense dark wine red 4 inch flower with up to 15 flowers on a 3 foot stem. This has bred a number of good reds, and we are using it to improve the quality of reds. Std, Med, Mar, 4N

Cym. Zippadea 'Old Gold' is a clear yellow 4 inch flower with up to 16 on a 3.5 foot upright spike. We are using this to produce clear yellow pot plants. Std, Med, Apr, 4N 25k, 71k

Cym. Zippadedoda 'Touch of Gold' B/CSA is the brightest yellow and the heaviest substance we have, with up to 16 5.25 inch round flowers on a 3.5 foot stem. We are using this with the hopes of getting award quality bright yellows for exhibition and pot plants. Std, Med, Apr, 4N 19k, 57k

Cym. Zot 'Leopard' is a blush pink 4 inch open flower, heavily peppered with tiny burgundy spots, and up to 16 flowers on an upright 4 foot spike. This has produced a couple of nice spotted hybrids, and we use it for spotted breeding. Std, Med, Jan, 2N 25k, 77k

Cym. Zumma Boyd 'Solana Beach' is a clear round dark green with a red banded lip, which doesn't sunstain when grown outdoors in high light. It can have 14 flowers, each 4.5 inches across on a 3 foot spike. It has produced nonstaining awarded offspring, and we use it for good show quality green breeding. Std, Med, Apr, 4N 18k, 51k

Max. picta is an unusual cymbidium companion with flowers white spotted burgundy on the backside and clean butter yellow on the inside.

Zygo. Millie 'Red Head' is a compact zygo which is less than 12 inches tall from the top of the pot. It is also a solid brownish red color with a bright blue purple lip, not the muddy brown color of most zygos. We are using to try to get better reds in zygos.

Zygo. B. G. White 'Stonehurst' HCC/AOS is a large, vigorous green zygo heavily covered with irregular brown splotching on the petals and a veined indigo lip. 15k, 78k

Zygo. Imagination 'Sparkles' is a large, vigorous green zygo heavily covered with irregular brown splotching on the petals and a veined indigo lip. 42k

Zygo. mackayi is a is a large, vigorous light green zygo covered with irregular brown splotching on the petals and a white lip heavily veined dark blue violet. 11k, 49 k
