This page presents a summary of our cymbidium and other outdoor growing breeding plants with names starting from Q through S. These are used for breeding and display only and are generally not for sale. Photographs of many of the plants are included with three image sizes, a thumbnail about 80 x 60 pixels in size which is automatically displayed with the plant description (if image display is enabled), and links to a midsized image about 320 x 240 pixels in size and a 640 x 480 full sized image. Click on the thumbnail to see the full sized image or click on the plant name to see the midsized image if a midsized image is linked. All images are jpeg compressed and the image size in kbytes is included for each image so you can estimate the time required to download an image.

We try to include the important characteristics of each plant and what we expect it to produce as a parent. Plant size is indicated by Lar, Med, or Sm for large, medium or small, type of plant is indicated by Std, Nov or Min for standard, novelty or miniature cymbidium, bloom season is the primary month of bloom in coastal California and ploidy is shown as 2N, 3N, 4N or 6N, or with ? if uncertain. Novelty plants have a miniature parent in the background, and the miniature parent and generation is indicated by P, E, D, C, S, M, O for pumilum (floribundum), ensifolium, devonianum, canaliculatum, sinense (hoosai), madidum or other. The number after the letter indicates first, second, etc. generation for the miniature species in the background.

Cym. Red Beauty 'Goldie', as the name implies, is a yellow Red Beauty resulting from a sibling cross. We have used this for several reddish yellow crosses. Std, Med, Jan, 2N
Cym. Red Beauty 'Prinses Albertina' is a bright red 4 inch flower on medium upright stems, usually with two spikes on the bulb. We have used this for a few diploid red crosses. Std, Med, Jan, 2N

Cym. Red Beauty 'Prinses Frederika' 2N S/CSA is a brownish red 4 inch well formed flower on medium upright stems, usually with two or more spikes on the bulb. We have used this clone for a number of diploid red crosses with very good results, and it often blooms both early and midseason. Std, Med, Jan, 2N

Cym. Red Beauty 'Prinses Frederika' 4N is a brownish red 4 inch well formed heavy flower on medium upright stems, often with two or more spikes on the bulb. We have used this clone for a number of tetraploid red and brown crosses with very good results. Std, Med, Feb, 4N 25k, 78k

Cym. Red Beauty 'Prinses Marianne' is a brownish red 4 inch flower on medium upright stems, often with two spikes on the bulb. We have used this clone for a few diploid red crosses. Std, Med, Jan, 2N

Cym. Rincon 'Clarisse' 4N HCC/AOS is an old parent which figures in the background of many modern awarded hybrids. The flower is light pink, 4 inches across, well formed and is very free blooming on medium spikes. It is generally color recessive in breeding and has produced white, yellow, pink, green and red offspring, depending on the other parent, imparting good form and free blooming characteristics. It doesn't make a good cut flower parent, however. Std, Med, Feb, 4N 20k, 61k

Cym. Rincon Fairy 'Raspberry' is a dark raspberry colored novelty with 2.5 inch flowers. We have used this for several red novelty crosses. Nov, Sm, Feb, 2N?, P2

Cym. Rincon Lady 'Zita' B/CSA is a very free blooming blush white 4 inch flower with a dark red banded lip. It normally has at least 2 spikes per bulb. We have used this for both diploid and triploid crosses for pink pot plants. Std, Med, Dec, 2N

Cym. River's Edge 'Chiffon' is a nice clear uniform pink 4 inch flower with an upright 3 foot spike. We have used this for producing clear pink pot plants. Std, Med, Mar, 4N 18k, 52k

Cym. Robin 'Freckles' 2N HCC/AOS B/CSA is an unusual 4 inch light green flower which is well covered with burgundy spotting. This has produced a number of nice spotted crosses, and it seems the green is usually recessive. Std, Med, Mar, 2N 23k, 68k

Cym. Rose Armstrong 'Sunrae' HCC/AOS is a bright yellow delightfully fragrant 4 inch pure color with 3.5 foot arching spikes. This is the best pure color parent we have in terms of ease of bloom, number of spikes and spike habit. We have used this for several pure color crosses. Std, Med, Dec, 2N 17k, 53k

Cym. Rosinante 'AM/RHS' is an old free blooming 4 inch pink flower. We use this to produce multiple spiking pink pot plants. Std, Med, Mar, 2N 21k, 66k

Cym. Rozel Bay 'Mont Millais' FCC/RHS has the best spike I have seen on a yellow standard. The 4.5 inch round butter yellow flowers are well held at the top of a 4.5 foot spike. We are using this to improve the spike habit of several yellow hybrids. Std, Med, Apr, 4N 59k

Cym. Ruby Eyes 'Red Baron' 4N AM/AOS AD/CSA is a dark burgundy colored 2 inch flower on pendant spikes. The wine color is usually dominant in the offspring. Min, Sm, Feb, 4N, P1 16k, 50k

Cym. Ruby Girl 'Bittersweet' B/CSA is a dark chocolate brown 2.5 inch flower with a dark burgundy banded lip with up to 20 flowers on a 2 foot spike. We have used this for some dark red breeding. Nov, Sm Mar, 2N, P3 20k, 62k

Cym. Sabre Dance 'Black Prince' is a 4 inch dark red diploid. We have used it for some breeding and the first flowers have been well formed with color in the red to brown shades. Std, Med, Apr, 2N 86k

Cym. Sensational Vintage 'The Giant' is a well formed free blooming dark burgundy red tetraploid. We are using this for more dark red breeding. Std, Med, Mar, 4N 82k

Cym. Showoff 'Katie' B/CSA is a blush pink novelty with 3.5 inch round heavy flowers and strong upright stems on a relatively small plant. The offspring are mostly white to blush; a few have been fragrant. Nov, Med, Feb, 4N P3 17k, 51k

Cym. Sleeping Beauty 'Sarah Jean' is a pure color 3.5 inch round sparkling white flower with just a little yellow on the lip. This has produced some nice white offspring with at least one AQ (Snow Court) and many individual awards to date. Std, Med, Mar, 2N 54k
